IT Advisor for Risk Assesment - Microsoft©
The following is an extract from the IT Advisor for Risk
Assesment Help files, it is not suggested that this assessment
be completed for all projects but it does present some interesting questions
to be considered in developing a Risk Management plan.
"Information technology plays a large role in most organizations
today. Due to rapidly changing technology and business practices, IT
managers need tools that help them manage IT project risk. IT Advisor
for Risk Management is based in part on the experience gained from Microsoft
Consulting Service's Risk Management practice and the fundamentals taught
in the Microsoft Solutions Framework (MSF) course on IT project Risk
Management.
MSF Participants told us several key facts:
- As IT changes rapidly, successfully completing IT projects on schedule
and within budget is difficult.
- IT project risk is often measured only by cost; qualitative measures
are lacking.
- IT managers want IT-project risk planning and management tools.
Few forums exist for sharing IT, best practices, and other knowledge.
From interviews and academic research, we developed a framework for
evaluating the impact and probability of IT project risk and your effectiveness
of managing the risks associated with your IT projects in enterprise
organizations. Enthusiastic reactions from initial customers motivated
Microsoft to make IT Advisor for Risk Management broadly available."
