PC fax service overview
With the introduction of PC faxing, Monash staff will be able to send and receive faxes using their computer through any email client, for example Mozilla Thunderbird or Lotus Notes, or via a multifunction device (such as an all-in-one printer, copier, scanner and fascimile).
Benefits of PC faxing
- You will be able to send a particular fax to many recipients, all at the same time.
- Your fax numbers will not be changed as existing numbers will be used.
- You will no longer be bound to the physical location of the fax machine as faxes are sent from your email account.
- PC fax capability will be available using the new Monash phone system.
- The service supports Monash environmental initiatives.
Receiving a fax
You will be notified that a fax has been received via an email with a PDF attachment in any email client. Incoming fax messages will be addressed to either a designated shared/group account or to your email account (no special set up is required).
Sending a fax
Instead of going to a fax machine and entering the number, you can send a:
- Soft copy from your computer by entering the current fax number as an email address, and typing your message and/or attaching a file.
For example, if the current fax number is 098072067 then the new fax number will be 098072067@fax.monash.edu.au. Do not include spaces between numbers.
- Hard copy from a multifunction device for documents only available in hard copy format.
Note: Only areas that have access to multifunction devices (such as an all-in-one printer, copier, scanner and fascimile) with 'scan-to-email' functionality enabled will be able to use PC faxing.
