Changing IMAP Settings in Netscape v4.7x

In Netscape Messenger select Edit, Preferences. Under Mail & Newsgroups on the left hand side select Mail Servers.

Click Add...

In the General tab enter the Server Name as mail.monash.edu.au, also enter your user name and click Check for mail every 15 minutes.

Next select the IMAP tab. Check the Use Secure Connection (SSL) box. Then, under "When I delete a message:" select the option Move it to the Trash folder. Click OK.

Enter your AuthCate password and click OK.

Please note: If you have mail filters it is necessary to copy them across before deleting the existing mail server.

Click OK to close the Preferences screen. Then exit completely out of Netscape (including any browser windows).

Open Windows Explorer.

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\<your_profile>\ImapMail\mail1.monash.edu.au

Make a backup copy of rules.dat (this is your filter rules file, if you have no filters this file will not exist)

Then paste a copy of rules.dat into the new mail server folder (mail.monash.edu.au)

Close Windows explorer and run Netscape Messenger.

Select Edit, Preferences. Under Mail & Newsgroups on the left hand side select Mail Servers.

You may now delete the old mail server. Ensure mail1.monash.edu.au (Default) is selected, then click Delete. Click OK to delete the server.

The new mail server now becomes the default.

If you currently store your Sent and Draft messages on the server it will be necessary to change these settings as the server has changed.

Click Copies and Folders on the left side of the Preferences screen.

Then as necessary select the Choose Folder button to change where your Sent mail and newsgroup messages, Drafts and Templates are stored.

Click OK to accept each of the settings and then click OK to close the Preferences screen.
