How to set up a Monash Mail account in Mozilla Mail and Netscape 7.x using IMAP

This document will guide you through the Mozilla Mail and Netscape 7.x account configuration to access your Monash Mail account using IMAP. Please see the main guides page for a list of other categories.

Creating a new Monash Mail profile

  1. Open Mail or Netscape and go to File > New > Account
  2. Select Email Account, press Next
  3. Enter your name and your staff email address (eg. john.citizen@its.monash.edu.au) and press Next
  4. Fill in the Server Information as shown below:

Note: If you have previously used Mail to access another mail account, the Outgoing Server will be automatically configured to use the SMTP server for this other account.If t his is the case, this field will not be available at this step. Modifying this setting is covered here.

  1. Enter your AuthCate username (eg jcitizen) into the Incoming User Name field, and press Next
  2. Enter the account name (eg Monash Mail Account). This is the label that appears in Mail. Press Next
  3. Press Finish

Configuring your new Monash Mail profile

There are some account settings that still need to be configured.

Go to Edit > Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings and select the new IMAP account.
  1. Select Server Settings
  2. Check the Use Secure connection (SSL) box.

  1. To configure the SMTP server settings, so you can send mail from your Monash Mail account, select the Outgoing Server (SMTP) and fill in the fields as shown. User Name i s your staff AuthCate username.

Note: This setting will work correctly for users sending mail from a Monash campus. Users of external ISPs have the option to use their ISP's SMTP server, or they may use the Monash SMTP server. If you are having trouble sending email from home, more information is available here:

  1. Press OK to finish setting up your Monash Mail account.

The profile should now be set up; click on the Inbox folder and you will be asked for your staff AuthCate password.
