Thunderbird and Outlook mail server settings and configuration (non-Google)
These guides are for Thunderbird and Outlook users ONLY.
- For those using Google Apps mail, see the Google Mail quick reference guides.
- It is strongly recommend that staff use Google Mail as their main Monash web client. The Google suite of applications are powerful, fully supported and customisable.
Basic configuration documentation is provided for staff to use other NON-SUPPORTED software (such as Outlook or Eudora). This documentation is not software-specific, however, provides basic necessary information - eg. ports, machine names, etc. No further advice can be offered outside of these guides.
General settings (Mail-client independent)
Basic settings for any mail software are as follows:
- username: you Authcate username
- IMAP: (incoming email) mail.monash.edu.au, port 993, use Secure Connection (SSL)
- SMTP: (outgoing email) smtp.monash.edu.au, port 465, use Secure Connection (SSL)
Note: This setting will only work when connecting through Monash (at campus or via Monash modems, etc). When connecting using another Internet Service Provider, use their mail relay for your SMTP settings.
- LDAP: (Monash Address Book) directory.monash.edu.au, port 389
Base dn: "o=Monash University, c=AU"
