Filter management

The filter management tool allows you to create and manage server-side mail filters. Server-side mail filters are similar to the mail filters you can set up in many common email clients, with the advantage that you do not need to run your email client for the filters to take effect. This means that users of WebMail and the My.Monash portal can also take advantage of mail filters.

How to use the filter management tool

This tool allows you to make many changes to your filters without needing to load a new page each time. The changes are stored in your browser until you click Apply; they are then applied to your account in one transaction.

If you click Cancel, log out, or close the browser window, any changes you have made since the last time you clicked Apply will be discarded.

Known issues

If your account is configured to forward mail to another address, and also has custom filters set up, this may result in unexpected behaviour at the final destination (for example, creation of extra folders). Users are advised to not set any custom server-side filters if their account is also configured to forward mail elsewhere. If custom filtering is required on an account that also forwards, client-side filters (eg in Thunderbird) should be used instead.
